National Pizza Day

It’s National Pizza Day and that means pizza recipes galore! Pizza is definitely one of the staple foods in the United States, even though it’s an Italian dish. I mean, so many different styles of pizza! I still can’t decide which one is better, New York or Chicago-style pizza. One thing is for sure, these recipes are fun and you can bet you’re family will enjoy. Then again, who doesn’t love pizza? They can turn any frown upside down.

Pizza Bombs

Now, these are great as appetizers or snacks for everyone!

Ingredients needed:

3 tablespoons of Kelapo Ghee

16 ½ oz can of biscuit dough

Marinara sauce

Sliced pepperoni

Ball of mozzarella cheese (cut into cubes)

Kelapo Ghee (melted)

2 garlic cloves (minced)

Salt (for taste)

Pepper (for taste)

1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning

Kelapo Ghee Spray

Shredded parmesan cheese (for topping)

Begin by preheating your oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray enough of the Kelapo Ghee Spray to grease the parchment paper. Take the biscuit and cut each one in half, then press each half into a circle with your thumb. With a spoon, place a dollop of marinara sauce in the center, then 1 pepperoni and 1 cube of mozzarella cheese in the center of each biscuit. When creating the dough ball, bring the edges up and over, pressing them together and being sure to leave no gaps for the filling to leak out. Lay all your pizza balls on the prepared baking sheet. Then in a small bowl, combine the melted Kelapo Ghee, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. With a brush, brush the pizza balls with the butter mixture and then top with parmesan. Pop them in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the pizza bombs are nicely browned. Once they chilled a bit serve with your favorite marinara sauce and enjoy!

Pizza from scratch

We all love pizza but let’s be honest, it’s a lot more time consuming than we usually like so I’ve picked an easy recipe that can be done under 30 minutes or less! Now, this is a pepperoni pizza but you’re more than welcome to switch up the toppings or just make a simple cheese pizza.

Ingredients needed:

¾ cup of self-raising flour

¼ cup of water

1 tablespoon of olive oil (for frying) or Kelapo Ghee

3 tablespoons of pizza sauce

1 handful of mozzarella cheese (grated)

6 slices of pepperoni

Dried oregano

Chili flakes

Preheat the grill (broiler) on high. In a food processor add the flour and water and whizz together for about a minute or until it becomes a clumpy consistency and forms into a ball. You might need to add a little bit more water or flour to get the consistency right. Lay out some flour on the surface you’re prepping and roll out the dough until it’s about ½ inch thick. Add the tablespoons of olive oil or Kelapo Ghee on an oven-safe frying pan on high heat and then place the pizza dough on top. While the bottom is cooking, top the pizza with your selection of ingredients, in this case, sauce, mozzarella cheese pepperoni and herbs (be careful not to overtop your pizza!). Keep cooking your pizza on high heat until the edges of the crust start browning and crisping. Then place the pan under the grill and cook the toppings until the cheese is bubbly and browning. Grab your pizza cutter and slice this bad boy up!

Enjoy this day made for us pizza lovers!

Peace, love and Kelapo ♥
