In honor of the National Pie Championship this weekend in Orlando, here is a delicious, homemade apple pie made with Kelapo Coconut Oil instead of butter! How does our coconut oil recipe stack up to yours?
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. For crust, combine softened Kelapo Coconut Oil, flour, and salt in food processor or knead by hand. Add ice cold water as needed. Refrigerate 15 minutes, then press into bottom and sides of a 9 inch pie pan.
To make the filling, in a large bowl combine sliced apples, cinnamon, and sugar. Pour into the crust.
For the topping, in the same bowl mix softened Kelapo Coconut Oil, brown sugar, flour, and nuts, if using. Top pie with mixture.
Bake 50 minutes or until topping is golden. Try not to eat the whole pie!
