With cold and flu season being right around the corner, now is the best time to take precaution about germs and boosting your immunity! Coconut oil is good for strengthening the immune system since it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Here’s our top 5 ways to fight cold and flu with coconut oil:
1.) Consume Coconut Oil On a Daily Basis: Try incorporating coconut oil in your diet on a daily basis to help boost your body’s immunity. One of the easiest ways to ingest coconut oil is by cooking and baking. Simply replace butter or oil with coconut oil in a 1:1 ratio in your favorite recipes.
2.) Stress Relief: Stress is one factor that can eventually lead to excessive buildup of toxins and harmful organisms. Relieve excess stress by applying coconut oil to the temples of your head and massage gently in a circular motion. The natural aroma of coconuts is extremely soothing, which may help lower your stress level and remove mental fatigue.
3.) Eliminate Congestion: If feeling congested, try mixing coconut oil and peppermint or eucalyptus essential oil together to make your own vapor rub. Massage the rub onto your chest to help relieve sinus congestion and clear nasal passages.
4.) Soothe Sore Throat and Cough: If having a sore throat or bothersome cough, try adding coconut oil to warm tea or broth. This can gently sooth a sore throat and ease coughing, in addition to boosting immunity at the same time.
5.) Ear Pain Relief: Place a few drops of coconut oil inside the affected ear twice daily to help with relief from the pain. Try putting a cotton ball slightly inside the affected ear after the coconut oil is dropped in. This will stop the oil from leaking out.

In addition to a helpful chest rub, during a cold try rubbing this mixture on your feet. When i have a chest cold I rub a similar menthol mixture on my feet, put on socks and within minutes magically I stop coughing. Definitely going to try this homemade recipe instead of store bought!
Amy that is a great tip, thank you for sharing it! Next time I have a cold I’ll have to try your method!
I loved this little article. Thanks for sharing. I also use coconut oil with peppermint or eucalyptus essential oil as a rub on my feet during the cold and flu season. It seems to keep those nasty colds away. I have given my clients little sample bottles of this to use and the absolutely love it.

hi i am eager to see how coconut works on my frizzy hair. I heard its a new trend but i dont know if i should buy some.. what if it does not work…
Hi Karina,
I have used it on frizzy hair and it works! I would say go ahead and try it and see if it helps your hair.
does this coconut oil really work on frizzy hair…
Great tips! I def use coconut oil when possible. (: Virgin Coconut oil is great for; building immune system 2tbs a day, pulling toxins from your system, vapor rubs, dry skin, breathing, and colds. I have also used the oil to treat my nieces hair for lice. Helps restore frizzy hair, helps with keeping your face smooth and young(: The best part is the oil is 100% organic and very healthy, with many great uses!
So excited to try these tips. I have a cold right now. I don’t like to take OTC medications, because I end up with a sinus infection. Always looking for homeopathic tips. Thanks!
Lori,
We hoped that using coconut oil helped some! We had a customer let us know that she did oil pulling to help her last sinus infection. Just an FYI in case you get sick again…but hopefully not!
I use coconut oil on my hair three times a week. Just slather it on and leave it for 30-45 minutes. Then wash and style normally! My hair is so soft and thicker! I will def try the chest thing!
How much coconut oil do you do in your hot tea?
Hi Kristina, sorry for the delay! When I’m at home, I scoop 1/2 TBSP in my cup of tea. I bring the packets with me when running errands or on the road, so in those cases I use one full packet which is 1TBSP.
