Top 5 DIY Coconut Oil Hair Tips

Ways to Use EVCO with Beauty!

With our humid Florida weather, frizz and dry hair are two main issues that I have always had. Now that the fall is upon us, my hair is staying a little more under control – thank goodness! I have a tendency to need to switch shampoo brands every few months because of a film that starts to build up on my hair, so I recently took some tips from Today Style and made my own shampoo and hair treatments. Sticking to all-natural ingredients such as coconut oil, aloe, honey, and essential oils has helped me tremendously. Here are a few tips that I took away from this amazing article:

Shampoo – Mix equal parts of distilled water and unscented liquid castile soap, then add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil. I like to use mint to give my scalp a refreshing feeling. The soap that I liked does have peppermint essential oils already in it, so you don’t necessarily need to add more. You can also add honey to this mixture and I have been massaging coconut oil onto my scalp with the shampoo for added moisture. This DIY shampoo may be great for someone who has a dry or sensitive scalp.

Conditioner – To make my own conditioner, I take plain Greek yogurt, honey, and coconut oil mixed together. After shampooing, place conditioner onto hair and leave in for about 5 minutes. I personally do this mixture about 3 times per week and put all ingredients into a plastic container before mixing. You may need to rinse your hair twice after using the conditioner, but everyone is different when it comes to that.

Hair MaskCoconut oil and honey also have a wonderful use for a hair mask. Combine coconut oil, honey, turmeric, and cinnamon and leave this mixture on your hair for 15-20 minutes. Your hair will be left feeling silky smooth!

Curl Enhancer – According to the Today Style article, you can mix 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel, 2 tablespoons coconut oil, and 2 tablespoons shea butter for a way to enhance your curls. Simply take 1 tablespoon of the mixture and twist the product around curls to get even better definition.

Frizz Tamer – This is my all-time favorite! On the days when your hair just doesn’t want to cooperate, take a pea sized drop of coconut oil and smooth throughout. This trick helps tame frizz and any fly-aways.

Hopefully these tips will help keep your hair smooth and healthy this winter season and even during the summer time, too! Be sure to check out our other all-natural beauty uses for coconut oil.
