Thirsty Thursday (Valentine’s Day Edition)

Happy Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s Day is one of the holidays I look forward to all year and not because it’s my birthday (okay, maybe a little because it’s my birthday). Valentine’s Day might not be an official holiday in every country but it’s one a lot of people still celebrate. It’s a day dedicated to showing love and appreciation for those around so what’s the harm in celebrating it?

I’ve looked up the most delicious cocktails that you can whip up tonight with friends, family or your partner. Sit down, relax and enjoy your drink!

Bourbon Cherry Crush

Ingredients needed:

4.5 ounces of Bourbon (about 3 shots)

3 ounces of grenadine

1 shot of maraschino cherry juice

2 tablespoons of lime juice

½ cup of sparkling water or club soda

¼ cup of granulated sugar (for rimming the glass)

Extra maraschino cherries and limes for garnish

Fill your shaker halfway with ice cubes and pour in the bourbon, grenadine, cherry juice, and lime juice into it. Shake well until it is mixed and chilled. Then pour sugar onto a small plate and run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass. Take each glass and dip the rim into the sugar to coat. Pour the shaken cocktail into the prepared glasses and serve with extra limes and cherries!

Rosé Champagne Mojitos

Now, these were a hit at my Galentine’s Day brunch party! Everyone thought they were the perfect twist between mojito and champagne. If you’re feeling something light and delicious for tonight, then look no further!

Ingredients needed:

6 to 8 fresh mint leaves

2 ½ ounces of champagne syrup

1 ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice

1 ounce of white rum

2 ounces of rosé champagne

1 lime (cut into wedges)

Champagne syrup

Ingredients needed:

1 cup of rosé champagne

1 ¼ cups of sugar

Champagne Syrup

Combine the champagne and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil while whisking constantly until the sugar dissolves then turn off the heat and let the mixture cool until room temperature. It will thick slightly.

In the bottom of a glass, add 1 ounce of syrup and the mint leaves. Muddle with a muddler or use the clean bottom of something blunt. Add ice to the glass, some lime wedges and pour rum, remaining syrup, lime juice and champagne over the top. Mix with a long spoon or knife and serve with an additional big sprig of mint.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this Valentine’s Day as much as I have (or will once I make this mojito again at home!).

Peace, love and Kelapo ♥

-Gabriella
