Some years back I was dating a guy who had one of the sweetest grandmothers I have ever known. With all her sweetness though this woman was notorious for putting the most random food items into Jell-O. The Christmas we were dating she handed a box and inside she had made me a Christmas Jell-O mold. The recipe consisted of Lime Jell-O, celery and red peppers. I don’t know if she was trying for Christmas colors, but I politely smiled and pitched it later. Veggies do not belong in Jell-O no matter how cute the lady is that made it.
Wow! Thanks for your entry Aubree. That definitely qualifies as a horrible food present. Are you telling me you didn’t even try a little bit?
Nope. Not one bite!
Last year I met my boyfriend (now fiance’s) parents for the first time at Thanksgiving. Since I’m vegan, I didn’t do much eating at their T-Day dinner – but I didn’t make a big deal of it, I mainly just snacked on the bowl of cashews that was sitting out throughout the day. We went back over there a month later for Christmas, and guess what his parents got me as a present – a box full of cans of cashews! Haha, I like cashews, but that was both unexpected and a little overwhelming. I only have one stomach! 😛
Thanks Amber! Looks like you are all set on cashews for a very looong time! Or there will be lots of cashew recipes on the blog…
So recently my boyfriends grandfather had a minor stoke and while in the hospital he found out he was diabetic and has to take insulin shots. Well my boyfriends mom is also diabetic so this past Thanksgiving we were at his family’s holiday get together and everyone was making diabetic friendly dishes. I love pumpkin pie and while I am not sure who made it I was eager to have some. Well it had no flavor it was so bland and just awful I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings so I grabbed a LOT more cool whip to eat my pie with it. Well at the end of the night there was still a lot of that pie left over and since they thought I liked it so much they sent it home with me! (My boyfriend laughed) Needless to say when I got home I threw it away before even getting in the house. I felt so bad but my boyfriend understood because he tried a piece of mine that night and he wasn’t going to eat it either! Next time I’ll make the pie! 🙂
Thanks for your entry Stephanie! I would definitely bring the pies for all of the holiday gatherings from now on.
The worst food gift I ever received was a plate of chocolate chip cookies from my neighbor. I opened the wrapping and there were cat hairs on the cookies, I almost tossed my cookies, as they say. Lesson learned, don’t accept cookies from your neighbor that has 6 cats.
Eeeewww! I definitely would have tossed those cookies right into the trash. Thanks for your entry LaCinda.
Oh yes, they got tossed into the trash for sure!
A couple years ago my cousin sent me a gift basket of assorted meat jerky. I am a vegetarian (and have been for about 20 years!) so, to me, that was the worst food gift ever. We can laugh about it now, but at the time, I was pretty annoyed!
Thanks for your entry Sara! That is definitely one bad gift for a vegetarian. I bet they went right into the trash.
Thank you all for entering!! As a thank you all of the runners-up will receive sample packs of coconut oil. We will be contacting everyone shortly. Happy holidays!
