Strawberry Protein Shake

Strawberry Protein Shake

Today is National Strawberry Day! Since strawberries are back in season, I have been incorporating them into my diet on days I can have fruit. I’m back to dieting and training for the 2013 Europa Fitness Expo in Orlando and will be competing in the bikini division of bodybuilding. My fruit intake has been limited, however healthy fats, such as coconut oil, are higher. The balance between the two has definitely helped my sugar cravings. Since I have completely cut out all sweets, I’m always looking for ways to make my meals yummy and satisfying! I experiment the most on days that I have both fruit and healthy fats. I start my mornings off with a protein shake, so today I decided to make mine super tasty. Using the same vanilla protein each day can tend to get a little boring. Whipping this shake up real quick before work takes no time at all and the coconut oil gives me an added boost of energy to start my day! One key aspect to remember when dieting or watching weight is to measure out all your portions. I can’t stress this aspect enough! I personally LOVE the pre-measured packets of Kelapo Coconut Oil for when I’m dieting. I make sure to have a few on me at all times! Since each packet measures 1 tablespoon, it’s perfect to tear open and add right into the protein shake. I have almond milk listed in this recipe; however feel free to use water. I’m at the point of my show prep where I can only use water in my protein shakes and I personally can’t tell a difference. Let’s take a look at what you’ll need:

Ingredients

½ cup strawberries

1 tablespoon Kelapo Coconut Oil

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or water)

1 scoop vanilla whey protein

Directions

  1. Wash strawberries thoroughly and cut off stems.
  2. Place strawberries, protein powder, coconut oil, almond milk, and ice in a blender or Magic Bullet.
  3. Blend together until completely combined.
  4. Serve and enjoy!

Not only is this protein shake a wonderful way start to your morning, but is also great pre or post workout! Make sure to check out my Top 5 Uses for Coconut Oil and Working Out for more tips. If you’re looking for a sweeter way to use strawberries, my recipe for lemon cake is perfect!
