Here at Kelapo we love our customers and our retailers! This month we are focusing on one of our newest Kelapo retailers, a pet store here in the local Tampa Bay area, Groovy Cats & Dogs. Yvonne, founder of Groovy, came across Kelapo because she simply could not keep coconut oil on her shelf! She realized it would be best to work with a local vendor so she can continue to supply her wonderful customers with this terrific product! Yvonne loves coconut oil so much that she invited Kelapo to demo at one of the local events that Groovy Cats & Dogs hosted at couple of weeks ago. Desiree enjoyed herself and we even got to make delicious homemade, all-natural doggy treats made with coconut oil!

We wanted to know more about Yvonne’s business so we asked her a few questions, check them out below!

1)      What is the story behind your store?

Groovy Cats & Dogs just celebrated it’s 6th year in business. I started Groovy because my husband’s dog Penny, a 4-year old chocolate lab, got sick and succumbed to cancer shortly after we started dating. I was curious about why a young, seemingly healthy dog could get so sick at such a young age. I soon learned about an alarming trend – our pets are getting sick with cancer and chronic diseases, a lot like humans are, and it is very closely linked to what they eat. So, the more I learned, the more I was compelled to start my own business, one that focused 100% on all natural nutrition for cats and dogs.

2)      What makes Groovy unique?

Groovy is a highly specialized pet boutique. We focus 100% on all natural nutrition for cats and dogs. We carry a limited number of brands so that we can educate ourselves and our customers about the products we carry. We spend a lot of time educating customers about healthy nutrition and options for feeding their pets. We offer many events, classes and workshops to provide learning opportunities for pet owers.

3)      How do you recommend coconut oil for pet owners?

We recommend coconut oil as a supplement for dogs (and cats) to help condition skin and coat, help with digestion and to help fight infections of all kinds, but especially yeast infection which is common in dogs. Even when people are already using fish oil, we recommend coconut oil because of all the added health benefits coconut oil offers.

4)      What are some of your best-selling products?

We sell a lot of raw foods – Primal Pet Foods, Raw Health, The Honest Kitchen, SOJOS, Stella & Chewy’s, Nutrisca along with premium all natural dry foods (kibble); our most popular chews include raw meaty bones, bully sticks and naturally shed antlers; sweet potato treats and our gourmet coconut-banana granola clusters are our best-selling treats; as far as supplements, coconut oil and canned pumpkin are top sellers; and probably the Jolly Egg is our best-selling toy.

5)      Are you having any sales or special events coming up soon?

Yes! We have a Patio Pawty (yappy hour) every month to help support local rescue groups; we select a different rescue each month. It is the 2nd Saturday every month from 4pm to 6pm. Also, our Black Fur-Day Sale is coming on Black Friday, November 23.

We enjoy having Yvonne as a customer and look forward to working more with Groovy Cats & Dogs in the future! Let us know if you shop at Groovy for you furry friends!!
