Our Visit to Charm City Cakes (Ace of Cakes)

Yesterday, Erin, Amber, and my brother got to go to Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, made popular by the Food Network Show Ace of Cakes! We got to see what it is like to have a real appointment with them, start to finish. When we arrived, we met Graham (a Tampa native!) and Tommy, who we had met the day before at his booth at the Fancy Food Show.

The bakery is basically one giant room, which is so much bigger than it looked on TV. When we sat down, we talked about cake design concepts, size, and colors. As we talked, Tommy sketched a design of our cake and Graham worked out all the logistics of our order. Behind me, the whole Ace of Cakes crew was working hard on other orders. We saw Geoff, Adam, Elena, and more! No Duff though (sad face). Apparently he is working on a top secret project on the west coast.

While we didn’t get to meet the whole cast or take a full tour of Charm City Cakes, we did get up close and personal with some of the most detailed, beautiful cakes I’ve ever seen. They are truly artists! I loved the light-up A-Team Van (made by Tommy) and the display cake that looked like a Hamburger with realistic looking French fries and a hotdog.

At the end of our appointment, we were given a box of 6 different kinds of cake to take home and try. We tried the blackberry sour cream, chocolate espresso, chocolate mint, peanut butter cup, white chocolate raspberry, and mudslide! It was so fun to finally get to try these famous cakes!

To be continued…
