Coconut Oil Hacks for College Students

A Jar For the Bathroom!

A Jar For the Bathroom!

Being a college student can become extremely taxing on your wallet, especially if you’re in a program where you’re not able to work. I remember having to count every penny that I had when I was in college, making it difficult for me to spend extra cash on certain items or activities.

In my last year of college, I discovered coconut oil and the MANY uses that one jar can provide. I can’t even tell you how much I fell in love with using coconut oil for just about everything and believe it or not, this solved some of my financial problems!

I always purchase one jar of coconut oil for my kitchen and one for the bathroom, which would last me at least a few months. The fact that this oil is completely versatile and can be used in so many ways, truly made it a lifesaver. I was able to save money on having to purchase countless beauty products, which would always hit my wallet super quick.

Here’s a list of my favorite coconut oil uses that helped me save money –

Coconut Oil for Cooking and Baking – I ditched buying butter and oil and would always have a jar of unrefined coconut oil around for sautéing, baking cookies, and putting some into my morning oatmeal to get a serving of healthy fats. You can also add coconut oil to coffee, which would allow me to save on creamer and also get an added boost of energy!  Try our Coconut and Blueberry Bars for a delicious breakfast item that can be baked ahead and eaten over the course of the week.

Coconut Oil for Face – From moisturizer to make up remover, I can’t even tell you how much I LOVE using coconut oil on my face. I was able to stop purchasing expensive face creams and make up wipes/removers, which would always burn my eyes. Going a natural route of taking make up off works so well and is also great for getting any stubborn mascara or red lipstick off. If you suffer from acne, stop buying countless amounts of acne products and give coconut oil a try. The anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties which are found in coconut oil may just do the trick of clearing up those stubborn pimples!

Coconut Oil for Hair – When I realized that I could deep condition with coconut oil and also use this as an anti-frizz agent, I was completely sold. I can’t even tell you how many anti-frizz products I would purchase for my hair, which barely worked for me anyway. A pea size amount of coconut oil goes a long way after straightening hair. Some people have even made their own shampoo from coconut oil, which is on my list to try!

Coconut Oil for Body – I’m the queen of moisturizing, so the cost of lotions would definitely add up for me! I’m such a big advocate of using coconut oil on dry areas of my skin right when I’m out of the shower. I also make my own homemade body scrubs with coconut oil, which are amazing for exfoliating! You can also apply coconut oil to any part of your skin that may have redness or flakiness to it for relief or even after you shave to help with razor burn.

Coconut Oil for Pets – Let’s not forget about our furry friends! My Italian greyhound loves to consume coconut oil from time to time and I also put it on her fur/skin when she gets red and itchy. When pets ingest coconut oil, they reap the same benefits as humans would. Smelly breath and boosted immunity are just two of my favorite benefits of having my pup consume coconut oil. Here’s a list of our Top 5 Uses for Coconut Oil and Pets.

Hopefully you’ll find some good advice on ways that coconut oil can help you cut back financially, even if you just use it in your beauty routine!
