Hubert Keller, Swoon!

Meeting Hubert Keller

I swear I’m not stalking these celebrity chefs. But guess who swung by my table on a recent trip to Fleur in Las Vegas: none other than Hubert Keller of Top Chef Masters! Our table of five girls might have been staring at him just a little though. He spent about 10 minutes with us, sharing his favorite items on the menu and talking about the show he was currently filming in that charming French accent of his! Love him.

Anyway, onto the menu at Fleur. Like I said, we went to the restaurant in a group of five. We knew it was going to be small, artsy plates, which we thought would be good for sharing, but turns out this is not the place for sharing with more than one friend. Here’s a list of what we ordered, with my comments:

Tuna Tacos, with serrano, cilantro, and avocado cream: They were about the size of a tortilla chip, and they only brought THREE. Totally not sharable! Also, tasted overwhelmingly cilantro-y. Not my fave.

Oysters, with margarita sorbet and orange puree: Recommended to us by Chef Keller. All I can say about the presentation is WOW! Gorgeous. Dry ice and a light up serving dish were a little over the top, but I loved it. The margarita sorbet was kind of like a granita, really perfect with the oysters, which aren’t usually my first pick. Didn’t really taste any orange though.

“In The shower” Lobster Mac and Cheese: Nothing special. Not a lot of lobster and I’m not sure I get the joke.

Crab and Avocado Sphere with Watermelon Gazpacho: Again, they brought three, which was annoying, but at least these were easier to share than a chip. Yummy!

Chicken Croquets with Garlic Cream and Pine Nut: “Pine Nut” was singular. Huh. Maybe that’s why I didn’t taste it. These were nice and creamy though.

Angus Sliders with Blue Cheese, Onion, Bacon, and Pear: Tasted like a burger. I don’t think I got any pear. Again with the sharing!

Hummus and Babah Ganoush: Good, but I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with a hummus. Great for sharing though!

Burrata: OMG I would return just to eat my weight in this. Creamier mozzarella with crusty bread. Mmmm.

Onion Soup with Truffle Oil: Came in tiny little shot cups, which is plenty because this stuff is heavy! Lots of cream, little onion, but delicious none the less. Recommended by Chef Keller.

White Chocolate Cheesecake lollipops: They brought 4. Four! How are you supposed to share a lollipop? Loved the presentation though, stood up in a bowl of raw sugar.

Overall Review: We had an invitation the following night to return with a large group of co-workers, and decided to pass. I would love to return with just one friend though. Who wants to go to Vegas?
