Get Rid of Split Ends

As a girl with wavy, frizzy hair I am always pulling out the blow dryer and hair straightener.  I don’t think I could survive without my hair straightener, but because of my love for straight hair I am constantly battling split ends.  I have been growing my hair out to donate to Locks of Love, so it has been a while since my last trim.  I took a long look at my hair the other day and realized how bad my split ends were (although you can’t really tell from the picture) and I don’t exactly want to donate a pony tail full of heat damaged hair.  So I grabbed my jar of coconut oil out of the cabinet, scooped some out and rubbed it in my hair.  I used to apply coconut oil to my hair regularly, but I will admit it has been a while.  Do you have a ton of split ends too?  Follow these three simple steps to healthier, shinier hair:

  1. Scoop out a small amount of coconut oil, rub your hands together to melt the oil, and comb through hair.  A little goes a long way!  Make sure to concentrate on the ends, but I still work a small amount up near my roots to keep my scalp healthy.
  2. Let coconut oil sit in hair for at least an hour, the longer the better (A lot of people like to sleep with it in their hair.  If you choose this route just make sure to cover your pillow case so you don’t ruin it.  This will also save you repeat applications in the future.).  Either wrap your hair in a bun or towel to keep the oil off of your clothes.
  3. Shower and shampoo to wash the oil out.  I usually shampoo twice to make sure my hair won’t be oily when I get out.  Condition your hair as usual.

Split ends are no more with coconut oil!

Once you dry your hair you won’t be able to stop touching it.  Coconut oil really is the secret to soft, healthy, shiny hair! Repeat every time you shower until you get the desired result.  Then apply 1-2 times per week to maintain that soft and shiny hair.
