DIY Acne Remedy

DIY Acne Remedy

Many people have the issue of battling with acne. I know that no matter what I do to help clear it up, it always seems to come back. I decided to experiment with coconut oil, yes it is an oil but with a secret weapon. The lauric acid is recognized as an acne fighter thanks to its anti-microbial properties. I have used coconut oil before as a moisturizer, shaving cream and even a make-up remover, which has worked amazingly! My skin is very sensitive so I was happy that the coconut oil didn’t irritate it at all.

I planned to experiment with coconut oil on my face for a week to track my results. I figured a week would be long enough to see improvements, so I began on a Sunday and didn’t stop until Saturday. My face has also been prone to redness; within a day I noticed a significant difference. I feel like it also smoothed and evened out my complexion. Let me tell you what I did:

DIY Acne Remedy:

  • Wash your face with a teaspoon of coconut oil at night  – I prefer to take showers at night so this was easy to do. I took the coconut oil and rubbed it all over my face and then completely rinsed it off. This removes make-up, dirt and anything else that shouldn’t be on your face. It also leaves your skin feeling moisturized and fresh.
  • If you have specific blemishes that need catered too, apply enough coconut oil to completely cover the blemish. Do this right before bedtime and do not rub in. This will allow the coconut oil to absorb into blemish and help to clear it up.
  • In the mornings, use the coconut oil as a moisturizer with an added SPF. Lightly apply a thin layer of coconut oil to your face and allow to ‘dry’ before applying your everyday make-up. This kept a nice moisture to myskin without it drying up and it helped my make-up go on smoothly.

I did this specific routine for one week and saw such an improvement with my acne. If I saw a blemish begin to form, I would make sure to put the coconut oil on it right before bed and in the mornings it would already begin to look better. Now, within a week’s time my face has not become completely blemish free but I will continue to use this technique on my skin and will be happy to see even more results!
