As I got out of the shower this morning and looked at myself in the mirror for the first time today, I saw my five o’clock shadow had turned into a scraggly mess. As I hit my shaving cream dispenser, nothing happened, I hit it again, and still nothing, every man knows the subtle panic of not having any more shaving cream, suddenly an inconvenient but generally uneventful part of your morning routine becomes an uncomfortable chore. I frantically searched for other options, I could shave dry, I could use soap and water, or I could try using coconut oil. Of course, I decided to go with the coconut oil, I have been hearing that it works great as a shaving cream but I had not tried it for myself yet.
I found myself some Kelapo coconut oil and got to work, I applied just enough coconut oil for the razor to move smoothly across my face and neck (about two teaspoons). The coconut oil went on clear so it was very easy to see if I had missed any spots, and I did not notice any difference in the abrasiveness of the razor. Because coconut oil works great as a moisturizer, I rubbed a little extra in after I had finished, I experienced no razor burn, and my face is currently very soft. Coconut oil also has antifungal and antibacterial properties so it not only helped me shave my face but also should help me reduce the presence of acne and irritated skin.
All in all shaving with coconut oil was a very present experience for me and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in giving it a try, it works just as well as my regular shaving cream, but with so many more added benefits. I definitely will not be going back to regular old shaving cream!

Interesting!
I haven’t tried shaving with coconut oil. It sounds like it would work lol. I’ve actually shaved with many other things besides shaving cream — odd things lol. If I don’t have any shaving cream, I just use hot water — works fine for me. I’ll have to consult my wife and have her find me some good coconut oil. Thanks for the recommendation.

Julian,
Thank you for your interest in the blog! Coconut oil works as a great shaving cream, give it a try. Try Kelapo coconut oil if you are looking for a high quality brand. Have a great day!
I have used natural coconout oil for shaving once and my skin was so smooth and silk after using it!
I have been using coconut oil to moisturize but only use it in the evenings. I find the smell a bit overbearing and afraid I would smell like coconut milk on my way to work!
Nate,
I do use it on my body after shaving and haven’t had a problem with anyone noticing the smell 🙂 The moisture is worth it – hope you liked it!
