Lip Scrub Applied Before Matte Lip Color - Works Wonders!

Lip Scrub Applied Before Matte Lip Color – Works Wonders!

There are so many celebrities who use coconut oil in their daily beauty routines and last week another one popped up – Kourtney Kardashian. Coconut oil is not only a healthy fat that can be used for cooking and baking, but it can also be swapped for a plethora of beauty uses! I always tell friends and family to keep a jar in the bathroom and one in the kitchen…I promise you will thank me later.

Recently, Kourtney Kardashian posted on her app that she is a fan of priming her lips with a DIY coconut oil scrub before putting on matte lip color. This trick is amazing for anyone who may have dry or cracked lips and works wonders for exfoliation and moisturizing. I have tried this in the past and recently went back to making my own DIY scrubs now that the cooler weather is starting to come back!

For this recipe, all you need is 3 simple ingredients and a storage container for the scrub:

Ingredients

2 Tablespoons Organic Raw Sugar or Brown Sugar

 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil

2 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil, Optional

Directions

  1. Melt coconut oil and place into a small container.
  2. Add in sugar and stir thoroughly.
  3. Next, add in essential oil drops, mixing until all ingredients are combined.
  4. Use and enjoy your soft lips!

Once your scrub is complete, you can now apply to lips. I make sure that my lips are completely dried off, then take a pea size amount of the scrub and rub it in circular motions over my top and bottom lips. After I have scrubbed both lips, I then remove the scrub with a damp washcloth and dry my lips with a towel. When your lips are completely dry, you’re now good to go with applying a matte lip color.

If you want to keep yourself natural, that’s totally okay too! Feel free to apply coconut oil to your lips after exfoliation for even more moisture and hydration. For the upcoming winter months, try our DIY Lip Balm, which is great to have on hand. I personally love using this scrub once a week to ensure my lips stay nice and soft – especially before applying lip color!
