Coconut Oil Baby Formula

Babies and breastfeeding seemed to take over the news this week! World Breastfeeding Week kicked off August 1 and runs until the 7; this week celebrates mothers across the globe. Then a new study was released that found breast feeding may actually increase a baby’s IQ.

While I don’t have any children of my own, yet, I’ve been surrounded by babies my whole life. Many of the mothers I know want to breast feed because of all the benefits – like the lauric acid which helps build the baby’s immune system. But sometimes, because of work or the baby not latching on, mothers have to turn to the bottle sooner than expected.

This is the case with one of our fans, who had to start supplementing her supply with a homemade formula using, of course, coconut oil. Lauric acid found predominately in two places – breast milk and coconut oil!

Brooke told us she adapted the recipe for her own son (who is super cute!) who can’t have dairy. The recipe below is good for five days.

Ingredients:

Lauric acid is found predominately in two places: breast milk and coconut oil.

2 cups of coconut juice

1-3 tsp acerola powder (vitamin C) (use larger dose if your child is fighting a cold)

1 tsp nutritional yeast

6 tsp Kelapo Coconut Oil

3 tsp olive oil

3 tsp sunflower oil

1 tsp cod liver oil

6 cups of raw goat milk

1. Whisk together the coconut juice (Preferably in a cardboard box so the aluminum doesn’t leak into the juice), acerola powder and nutritional yeast.

2. Add coconut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, and cod liver oil. Wisk together.

3. Add raw goat milk. Whisk together.

4. Pour mixture into bottles and keep in fridge. Mixture is good for 5 days.

Notes:

If the coconut juice is cold, work quickly to avoid solidifying the oils. Make sure to have your bottles already set out on the counter. You can also add powder probiotics to the mixture once or twice a day because it is very important for the baby’s digestive system.

If you are breastfeeding, we have Gluten-Free Lactation Cookies to help your supply. Also be sure to find other coconut oil uses for new moms and babies.

Cheers to happy and healthy babies!
