Clevers Ways to Use Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has proven to have beneficial long-term effects on the skin, body, and mind. It has multiple uses all in one product. From cooking to skincare to body detox, you can’t go wrong with coconut oil! But what kind of coconut oil should you purchase to focus on all that?

I know you’re asking yourself: Refined? Unrefined? What does that even mean?

Don’t worry, I’m here to lay it all out for you. Refined coconut oil goes through a process to extract the flavor and scent from it, whereas the unrefined coconut oil keeps its natural flavor and smell. Refined is made from dried coconuts whereas Unrefined is made from fresh coconuts. The idea behind unrefined coconut oil is to have a high smoking point. Refined coconut oil heats up to 400 degrees, whereas Unrefined heats up to 350 degrees. I always recommend buying the Unrefined Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Coconut Oil because it’s fresh and still amazing for baking/cooking.

So let’s get down to business. What are some clever ways to use coconut oil?

Makeup Remover

Now, this is my personal favorite. Now we’ve heard from tons of celebrities, like Adrienne Bailon, that coconut oil is perfect for removing your make up, and it’s true! A little coconut oil goes a long way.

Get a small dab of room temperature coconut oil on your hands and apply all over your face or the areas where there is makeup. Continue to spread with your hands in circular motions. Last, use a wet towelette to wipe all the excess make up off. Depending on how much makeup you’ve used, it may not come off completely. So, remember to always wash your face with soap and water.

Whipped Coconut Oil Body Butter

This is perfect if you want to stay away from all the usual body butters or lotions at the drug store that contain loads of other ingredients and chemicals. I stumbled onto this recipe on YouTube (link attached) and it has been a game-changer.

You’ll need 2/3 cup of coconut oil and whatever organic essential oils you like! First, place the coconut oil in a large bowl and using a hand mixer, mix until the coconut oil consistency changes to a thin whipped consistency. Now, the essential oils is an added step and not 100% necessary, so if you like coconut oil as is then store in a sanitized container and you’re good to go. If you want to add essential oils, add about 4 to 5 drops and mix using the hand mixer once more. Then store the container somewhere not hot or just at room temperature.

Shaving Cream

I get rashes on my skin every time I shave, but ever since I started using coconut oil as a shaving cream, the bumps have stopped! Now, you can either use it while your shaving or simply use it after you’ve finished shaving. Either way, the natural chemical properties of coconut oil act as a barrier on your skin and protect it from harmful bacteria.

Metabolism Booster

2 tablespoons of coconut oil per day can speed up your metabolism! Now, you don’t have to take them in a shot glass, even though that could be an interesting conversation at work. You could simply add the 2 tablespoons to your coffee or tea in the morning. This is due to the MCTs inside of coconut oil.

As everyone knows, we love cooking with coconut oil so there’s no surprise you can use it for baking, sautéing, frying and spreading! With all those reasons in mind, don’t forget to stop by our Amazon page and purchase your jar of Kelapo Coconut Oil!
